Race for Life ’09

With Mayor Cllr Julie Stewart-TurnerCadets and staff once again helped out at the Huddersfield Race for Life, held this year at Leeds Road Playing Fields.

Based in the finish funnel, Squadron personnel gave out medals, goodie bags and much-needed bottles of water, as temperatures and humidity levels rose, especially during Sunday’s races. They were also responsible for ensuring that the races started smoothly by walking the runners forward in a line up to the start/finish point

Sunday morning’s race was started by Cllr Julie Stewart-Turner, Mayor of Kirklees, who spent some time chatting with the cadets and Flt Lt Gill Baker, Officer Commanding 59 Squadron.

Over 5,000 women of all ages and abilities took on the 5km course in three races held over two days.

And, as usual, the cadets took part in the pre-race warm-up exercises… with varying degrees of success!
