Return to Scotland
14 air cadets from three different squadrons in West Yorkshire took on the Roses Project earlier this year, as Cdt King reports.
“We packed up our stuff and travelled over to the beautiful Island of Mull, just off the west coast of Scotland. The journey was quite arduous – 12 hours long! Although it did include a rather calm but enthralling crossing to the Island on a ferry. From the 23rd to the 29th of May, we spent a week working as a team and conquering personal fears. We met our instructors; Andy and Crystal at the entrance to the house. Tavool House, the accommodation for our expedition, was a grand house with around 4 rooms to socialise and 4 bedrooms. Upon arrival we where blown away by the stunning view of a beach not 2 minutes walk away, which later on the day of arrival we had to go investigate!
“Jamie Harper, 14, said ‘My favourite activity was the abseiling. I never thought I would be able to do it, but once I was buckled up my feet where ready to go! I peered over my shoulder, looked down at the 60 foot drop and thought to myself ‘this is no place for the rope to snap, there’s a marsh at the bottom and I’ll get covered in mud!’ One of the most memorable moments, which most of us would agree was the highlight of out trip, was a stunning waterfall!
“To get to this waterfall we first had a rough 2 hours scrambling over rocks and leaping off rock faces into the frighteningly unknown depths of freezing pools. Over all, we can all agree, we had the time of our lives. We have memories that will never be forgotten, and made friends we hope to stay in contact with forever.
“Thank you Andy and Crystal, and thank you everyone who sponsored the trip for giving us such a wonderful time!”
