59 Squadron, Huddersfield

Come down and see us!

59 (Huddersfield) Squadron Air Training Corps will be holding a presentation evening for parents of existing cadets, plus an open evening for potential new recruits and their parents on Monday 10 March.

As one of the largest youth voluntary organisations in the UK, the Air Training Corps can offer young adults aged 13 to 18 a range of opportunities to learn new skills, in areas such as flying, gliding and communications, which they might not gain elsewhere. Although many cadets do go on to join the RAF, Army or Royal Navy, we are not a recruiting office! The leadership and other skills learned can be used in civilian as well as uniformed life.

The ATC is also the largest supporter of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme, as well as the Young Citizen’s and Millennium Volunteers Awards. And 59 Squadron also takes part in canoeing, kayaking, climbing and camping trips and expeditions overseas, such as to Norway, Germany and the USA, as well as offering sports such as swimming, football, rugby, cross-country and athletics in competition with other squadrons in West and South Yorkshire. In 2006 we were one of the first ATC squadrons to take part in the International Space Olympics, held in Russia. In the last 18 months, our cadets took part in expeditions to Ghana, the Pyrenees, the Himalayas and Cyprus.

We also work with local and national organisations, such as the Honley and Penistone shows, and with the Race for Life events.

If you would like to know more, or would like to come down and see us on the 10th, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
