Flight Sergeant Joshua Clegg aged 17 years, from 59 Huddersfield Squadron, RAF Air Cadets and a student at Rastrick Sixth Form, has been awarded the prestigious appointment as the Mayor’s Cadet for 2017/18 for Kirklees. He began with his first official engagement on Monday 19th June by the way of a ceremony held in the Huddersfield town centre with a flag raising ceremony for the Armed Forces veterans followed by a poem reading.
That evening the Mayor Councillor, Christine Iredale, made a visit to Huddersfield 59 squadron for the official ceremony and presentation of a certificate, and badge to Flight Sergeant Clegg for his 2017/18 year in office, where he will accompany the Mayor on various civic and fundraising duties.
The Mayors cadet is a position of great honour, chosen personally by the Mayor and bestowed upon an individual of outstanding character, who has consistently displayed dedication at the highest level.
Joshua joined Huddersfield 59 Squadron a little over two years ago and has embraced the Air Training Corps, and has been swiftly promoted to Flight Sergeant having been to RAF Cranwell on the Air Cadet Leadership Course passing with a merit. He continues to work hard for his Squadron and the community.
