Flight Lieutenant Kirsty Piccavey is the new Commanding Officer at 59 Squadron.
She takes over from Flt. Lt. Gillian Halman, who had led the Squadron since summer 2009.
Flt Lt Piccavey, from Linthwaite, is a former cadet of 59 Squadron and was previously in charge of 1466 (Holmfirth) Squadron.
“I’m delighted to be returning to Huddersfield as commanding officer,” she said. “The squadron is one of the oldest in the area and has produced many cadets who have gone on to have distinguished careers, in the armed forces and elsewhere.
“This year the Air Cadet Organisation celebrates its 75th anniversary, and I look forward to working with the cadets and staff at the Squadron to promote the ACO’s values – to encourage interest in aviation, provide training which will be useful in the Services and civilian life and to encourage the spirit of adventure and develop qualities of leadership and good citizenship.
“I’m also looking forward to meeting up with other former cadets and staff when the Squadron celebrates the ACO’s 75th anniversary at a formal dinner in early February.”
